Denton Pinot Noir 2019

Denton Pinot Noir 2019

Viticulture:
Soil type: Granite
Aspect: North-East

The Denton Pinot Noir block sits at the very top of a North Eastern slope, and sees the softest morning light and is shielded from the hot afternoon sun. The planting density here is 1.3m x 0.8m and this high density spacing always gives more power and concentration while maintaining the lightness and elegance of the vineyard. The granitic sand over granite boulders and long, slow growing season provide a very special and unique terroir. This unique micro-climate and soil profile contribute lots of bright, fresh red and black fruit, and mineral florals, framed by fine tannin on an acid frame.

Winemaking: Fermented with 80% whole bunches included, wild yeast fermented and held on skins for 19 days with frequent plunging and foot stomping. No temperature control. Pressed to 500 litre French oak puncheons (15% new) and left unsulfured for 12 months prior to bottling without fining or filtration.

Vintage 2019: A warmer, dryer year but probably the most elegant, fine wines we've made from a hot year.
