Miette Rose 2020

Miette Rose 2020

A new Rosé in the Spinifex stable. #boom. Unlike the Mataro- and Grenache-driven Spinifex Rosé, the Miette is crafted entirely from Pinot Noir. It's sourced from a single vineyard on red clay over limestone in the southern Barossa foothills--just down the road from the famed Steingarten vineyard. It's cropped from a tiny parcel of Pinot immediately adjacent to a small bush-vine Mataro vineyard that Pete Schell has been making cracking rosé from for the last six years or so. Pete notes that he's been in the habit of sneaking across and tasting the Pinot Noir fruit whenever he's been up there checking on the Mataro, and, ever curious, in early 2020 he asked grower Ronnie to hand pick a couple of tonnes for him.

In terms of the winemaking, it's been made using direct press. The pinot was chilled prior to crushing, lightly pressed and wild fermented in both stainless steel and very old French oak puncheons. It was bottled after nine months on lees.
