Brézé is a particularly special part of Saumur that defies axioms of the
larger region. Vineyards are set at a higher elevation on a hill
of tuffeaux -- a porous, chalky limestone intermixed with clay and
sand. This terroir evokes far a more citrus, floral and mineral
expression of Chenin. Even in ripe and powerful vintages, the wines remain cool,
pure and fresh. There's quince, honey, a touch of matchstick, crème brûlée and
iodine, deep and complex.
