Based in the Montagne de Reims, Raphael Bereche took over the nine-hectare
vineyard from his father Jean-Pierre after working under him for the better part
of twenty years. Now with his brother by his side, the current generation's
personal stamp is very much on display. Bereche has been one of the
traditionalists who uses cork rather than crown seal closures for their wines,
but freshness and less oxidation than might be expected are calling cards for
the producer these days.
Reflet d'Antan is composed of roughly one-third each of Pinot Noir, Pinot
Meunier and Chardonnay, vinified in large format oak with zero malolactic
conversion and 41 months on fine lees. Dosage is 6 g/l. Powerful and beautiful
acidity, quixotic and characterful.
