Harmand Geoffroy Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques 1er 2013
Almost fully south-facing, Lavaux St-Jacques sits exposed to the Combe de
Lavaux, right next door to Clos St-Jacques. It is always the last Geoffroy site
to be harvested, no doubt due to the vineyard's position in the direct path of
cool air streams that flow down from the combe (valley). Spread across six tiny
parcels and totalling just 0.75 hectares, the family's vines range between 40
and 95 years of age. There's plenty of dark cherry and spice-laden fruit as well
as classy oak and a long, powdery close. It is a wine for the cellar but still
impressive from the decanter today.
