Mount Edelstone, meaning "gemstone" in German, takes its name from the small yellow opals once found in the area. The vineyard was established in 1912 by Ronald Angas and planted entirely to Shiraz an unusual choice at the time. Set on ancient, red-brown clay soils, the dry-grown, ungrafted vines produce low yields with remarkable concentration. First bottled as a single-vineyard wine in 1952 by Cyril Henschke, it has since become one of Australia’s most iconic and consistently produced Shiraz wines.

The 2021 vintage followed a cool, mild growing season with a warm autumn, allowing for slow ripening and exceptional flavour and tannin development. Matured for 18 months in a mix of seasoned and new oak, the wine shows intensity, structure, and purity. A standout vintage with excellent cellaring potential over the next 30 years.
