Mark Haisma Saint Romain 2018

Mark Haisma is an Australian winemaker based in Burgundy where he makes a number of cuvees from the most prestigious vineyards in the region, as well as some fairly overlooked and underrepresented sites. His Saint Romain for most people probably falls into that latter category.

This is a blend from two lieu-dit vineyards in Saint-Aubin - Le Jarron and Village. Saint-Aubin is one of the cooler sites in the Côte de Beaune, so only medium bodied, mouthwatering line and a touch of oak from 500 litre barrels.  Le Jarron imparts the steel and citrus and Village offers some texture and body. From vines up to 45 years of age. Lemon rind, white peach and oatmeal. Crunchy wet stone and a briney minerality feel with almost chalky/talc texture but soft to close. Long and assured particularly in the context of the vintage.
