Penny's Hill The Experiment Grenache 2018

Careful canopy management of an exclusive 1.9 acre site on shallowsoils, results in low yields of highly concentrated fruit. With two vines per panel, planted almost together and crossed deliberately at the first wire, vigour is contained and concentration enhanced. Sourced from ancient, pre-clonal Grenache reared to the north of the Vales, the plot is almost dry grown Fruit was hand picked and open fermented using 20% whole bunches.Gentle hand plunging and 14 days on skins ensured optimum balancebetween flavour and tannin extraction was achieved and wine waspressed off skins and matured in old French Puncheons for 11months. Barrels remained on lees with regular topping to encouragetexture and complexity and to preserve and respect the delicatenature of this parcel. The wine shows dark cherry and berry fruits coupled with anise, spice and underlying savoury notes. The palate is both flavoursome and seductive stating fruit purity and elegance. Fine tannins provide structure and balance leading to a wine of exceptional length and generosity
