Thoughtful, insightful and perceptive are words that describe the Bindi winemaker and vigneron Michael Dhillon to a tee. Over many decades now, he has been a figure with true gravitas for the stylish and heartfelt wines he and his family and team create from their vines in the Macedon Ranges, an hour or so north of Melbourne, and from special vineyard sites around Heathcote.
The intention of the wines shines through with sheer balance and precision, as does the entire ethos of the farm, devoted to 7 hectares of vines, but mixed with raising sheep, native grassland and bushland, and a high-quality timber plantation for high-end bespoke furniture.
Michael Dhillon is a true devotee to the vine, and his wines and philosophy speak eloquently to many wine lovers both here and around the world. His vintage updates are the stuff of legend in the mould of an Aubert de Villaine, for the way that they trace the highs and lows of vintages stretching over decades.
