Bouchard Pere et Fils Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
Known as a favourite of Napoleon, the Chambertin Grand Cru has grown in
stature to be pre-eminent in the ranks of Grands Crus in Gevrey-Chambertin and
Burgundy as a whole. It's name (maybe apocryphal) goes back to a
farmer with the surname Bertin who is said to have identified and cultivated
this parcel to be every bit the equal of Le Clos de Bèze, its neighbour. Since
then, this appellation has managed to acquire such notoriety that
the village of Gevrey has become Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate owns .15
hectare and produces some 700 bottles per year of this precious cru. The
vines are planted on a gentle slope of red ferruginous chalk.
