Marengo Barbera D'alba Pugnane 2021

Mario Marengo’s Barbera d’Alba Pugnane 2021 showcases the character of Barbera from Castiglione Falletto, a village better known for its celebrated Barolo vineyards. Sourced from the Pugnane vineyard, where the vines were around fifteen years old at the time of harvest, this single vineyard wine combines the generosity of Barbera with the distinctive character of its Piedmontese home.

Marengo takes a considered approach in the winery, focusing on preserving the grape’s natural fruit and freshness. Ten months in used French barriques adds texture and subtle complexity without imposing too much oak influence. The result is a generous, full bodied Barbera with ripe cherry, blackberry and plum, balanced by refreshing acidity and gentle spice.
