Sourced from The Chase Vineyard on the northern edge of McLaren Vale, this Mencía is a finely detailed expression of the Spanish variety, shaped by ancient rocky soils and thoughtful winemaking. Fragrant violet, sour cherry and pomegranate are layered with liquorice, crushed stone and subtle savoury spice. The palate is vibrant and beautifully composed, with succulent raspberry and blackcurrant framed by lively acidity and fine, mineral edged tannins. A combination of carbonic maceration, 22% whole bunch inclusion and seven months in seasoned French oak brings aromatic complexity and texture without compromising freshness. An elegant, medium bodied red, particularly compelling served slightly chilled alongside paprika spiced lamb or grilled vegetables.
